Dominican Republic and Mexico partner on educational programs

Santo Domingo.- The Instituto Superior de Formación Docente Salomé Ureña (ISFODOSU) and the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY) in Mexico have signed an agreement to jointly develop academic programs, exchanges, and cooperation in teaching, student training, and research in areas of mutual interest.

The signing ceremony was attended by ISFODOSU Rector Dr. Nurys del Carmen González and UADY Rector MSc. Carlos Alberto Estrada Pinto, who both expressed their gratitude for the commitment shown by both academic institutions. The agreement includes the exchange of information and publications, access to libraries and collaboration among faculty and researchers.

It also encompasses the organization of seminars, colloquia, symposia and joint research studies. Additional initiatives include the joint development of academic programs and curricula, access to specific equipment and materials upon mutual written agreement, short-term visits to both institutions’ facilities, and student exchanges in areas where the host institution has particular strengths.

The signing took place in the Francisco Polanco Hall of the Rector’s Office. Attendees from ISFODOSU included Academic Vice Rector Dr. Carmen Gálvez, Vice Rector of Research and Graduate Studies Ms. Andrea Paz, Vice Rector of Development and Innovation Ms. Milta Lora, Vice Rector of Management Ms. Aida Roca, and Executive Vice Rectors of the Santo Domingo campuses Dr. Glenny Bórquez from Félix Evaristo Mejía (FEM) and Ms. Cristina Rivas from Eugenio María de Hostos. Representing UADY were Dr. Pedro José Canto Herrera, Director of the Faculty of Education, and his wife, Silvia Salas.

Following the signing, officials from both institutions toured ISFODOSU’s facilities and enjoyed a merengue dance performance by the FEM campus dance group.

The Universidad Nacional del Sureste was founded on February 25, 1922, initiated by Governor Felipe Carrillo Puerto. On November 5, 1938, the State Congress renamed it Universidad de Yucatán. On September 1, 1984, the university gained autonomy, and its acronym was formally changed from UDY to UADY.
