Onamet predicts heavy rains today in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo – Onamet explained that the rains will be more intense towards La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, Gran Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Barahona, among others.

The weather agency indicated that precipitation will continue overnight, although temperatures will be hot due to the time of year and the arrival of dust from the Sahara.

It further recommended that the population drink enough fluids, wear light clothing, and not expose themselves directly to solar radiation, especially during the strongest sunshine from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In its report, the agency maintains a meteorological alert due to rains forecast for the next 24 to 48 hours, which could flood rivers, streams, ravines, and urban areas.

Santiago and La Vega are the communities under green alert. In high-risk areas, torrential downpours, gusts of wind, and sudden flooding are expected.

Yesterday, the cyclone season began for the North Atlantic basin, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico.
It is characterized by the period of the year when these weather systems generally form. For 2024, forecasts indicate an active season.
