Santo Domingo.- Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, the General Commander of the Army of the Dominican Republic, has ordered an increase in troops in key units responsible for guarding the entire border strip, including special forces units.
As part of ongoing measures to enhance operational capacity in the border area, the institution has deployed 1,100 newly graduated soldiers to various areas of responsibility.
The units receiving reinforcements include the 10th Infantry Battalion in Dajabón, under the 4th Brigade in Mao, Valverde, responsible for the northern border; the 11th Infantry Battalion in Elías Piña, under the 3rd Infantry Brigade in San Juan, responsible for the central region; the “El Rodeo” Military Fortress in Jimaní, Independencia province; and the 16th Infantry Battalion in the Enriquillo Fortress in Pedernales, under the 5th Infantry Brigade in Barahona, responsible for the southern border area.
Additionally, the Commando Battalion has seen an increase in soldiers across its various units, as has the 6th Hunters Battalion based in Constanza, La Vega province, alongside other Infantry Brigades stationed throughout the country.
This increase in troops underscores the Army’s commitment to maintaining the sovereignty and independence of the nation, strengthening security across all border areas, and ensuring a safe and stable environment for the daily activities of border communities.
