Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic, represented by the Ministry of Labor, has been elected as a full member of the board of directors of the International Labor Organization (ILO) for the 2024-2027 term.
The election took place during the International Labor Conference Meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 3 to 14.
Minister of Labor Luis Miguel De Camps stated that this election is a significant honor for the Dominican Republic and reflects the government’s commitment to decent work and social justice under President Luis Abinader.
“With this second election during our tenure, the efforts made in promoting the ILO’s principles and values are recognized, always aiming for the well-being of workers, job creation, and sustainable development in our region,” De Camps added.
The Minister has pledged to collaborate with other members of the ILO Governing Board to advance the organization’s agenda, focusing on opportunity creation, decent work, social protection, and inclusive social development.
The ILO Governing Body oversees and establishes the work agenda of the Organization. This election positions the Dominican Republic as a key player in the development of international labor policies.
The International Labor Conference governs the general policies of the ILO and brings together delegates from governments, workers, and employers from Member States worldwide.
