The leader’s health is stable, according to both sources.

On Sunday afternoon, Conille posted a video where he appeared standing and speaking to the camera. “I am publishing this recording to assure you that I am fine,” he said, promising that his cabinet would be complete this week.

The 58-year-old prime minister was hospitalized on Saturday for an “asthma attack,” an official source informed AFP.

“After a week of intense activities,” the prime minister “felt slightly ill” on Saturday afternoon “and went to the hospital to receive treatment,” the communication office said that night on social media platform X.

Conille was named prime minister last week by Haiti’s presidential transition council following the March resignation of his predecessor, Ariel Henry, amid a rise in gang violence in the country. He was sworn in on Monday.

A doctor by profession, Conille previously headed the Haitian government for six months between 2011 and 2012 and recently served as regional director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Before his medical emergency on Saturday, Conille visited the international airport in the capital, Port-au-Prince, where he praised security forces for allowing flights to resume after more than three months of interruption due to violence.

In late February, gangs launched coordinated attacks against strategic sites in Port-au-Prince, aiming to overthrow Henry.

According to authorities, 80% of the Haitian capital is controlled by criminal gangs, accused of numerous abuses including murders, rapes, looting, and kidnappings for extortion.

The population is also facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with shortages of food, medicine, and other basic goods.
