High Court ruling on RD$157M fraud disastrous: Prosecutor

Santo Domingo.- The Justice Ministry’s Anticorruption Special Prosecutor (PEPCA) on Monday called the Supreme Court ruling on the more than RD$157 million fraud during Elías Wessin Chavez’s tenure as head of the National Assets Agency (BN) “disastrous.”

Laura Guerrero Pelletier warned that the ruling handed down by the Supreme Court’s 2nd Chamber “lacerates” the fundamental guarantees of the Dominican legal system.

The high Court ruling clears to the former head of the BN –who resigned in October 2012- of criminal responsibility together with a group of former Agency officials also charged with embezzlement.
