Adoexpo celebrates growth in Dominican exports

Santo Domingo.- Karel Castillo, president of the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo), announced that from January to May 2024, the Dominican Republic exported US$18,611,228 to Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Belize. The agricultural sector led this surge, growing from US$6,350,777 in May 2023 to US$7,111,534 in May 2024, marking a 12% increase.

Castillo made these remarks during the “Exporting Company Award to Central America 2024” ceremony, organized by Adoexpo and Banco Lafise. Diesco Industries received the award for its outstanding performance in marketing packaging solutions and non-alcoholic beverages in the region.

Castillo commended Dominican companies for their efforts to penetrate Central American markets, praising the award winner and finalists for their exemplary achievements, which serve as inspiration for others.

During the event at Cava Alta, Castillo noted Diesco’s nearly six-decade history as a multi-sector regional conglomerate known for modernization, internationalization, and innovation.

Edgar Del Toro, general manager of Lafise, reiterated the bank’s support for the export sector, emphasizing its regional presence and 39 years of experience across 11 countries. He highlighted the strategic alliance with Adoexpo over the past six years and noted the significant market potential, with Central America and the Dominican Republic having a combined GDP of approximately US$400 billion and trade volumes exceeding US$1.1 billion. Of this, US$270 million are Dominican exports, underscoring the opportunity for market expansion.

Roselyn Amaro Bergés, executive vice president of Adoexpo, and Biviana Riveiro, executive director of ProDominicana, also attended the event. The award was accepted by Diesco executives Álvaro Sousa and Christian Herrera.

As part of the award, Diesco will participate in a trade mission involving business meetings with potential buyers and distributors in a Central American country of their choice, facilitating their market expansion.

Other nominees included Antillean Foods, specializing in snacks and frozen foods, and Halka Industrial, a leader in personal and home care products. Both companies received certificates for their exceptional export activities.

The event also celebrated the resilience of the Dominican export sector, driven by initiatives from Adoexpo and supported by Banco Lafise.
