Ex-wife and son of Roque Espaillat dismayed by leaked video

Santo Domingo.- Dr. Jacqueline Amalia Miranda, ex-wife of politician Roque Espaillat, and her son, Luis Alejandro Espaillat Miranda, expressed dismay over the release of a video in which Luis confirmed accusations of sexual abuse against the former presidential candidate of the Democratic Hope Party (PED).

Miranda and her son emphasized that the video was intended solely for the prosecutor handling the case at the Unit for Attention and Prosecution of Gender Violence, Domestic Violence, and Sexual Crimes in the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office.

In a press release, they expressed surprise that the recording, made a few weeks ago regarding the judicial case against Espaillat for alleged sexual abuse in 2008 and 2009, had been leaked to the media.

They also reported that on June 18, the attorney general summoned the parties to address the allegations and warned Dr. Roque Espaillat to refrain from harassment and intimidation, which he subsequently ignored.

“No decision was made in favor of Dr. Roque Espaillat,” they noted.

They further complained that the following day, Dr. Roque Espaillat and his communication team falsely claimed victory in the process.

“Dr. Jacqueline Miranda Pereyra and Luis Alejandro Espaillat Miranda are currently empowering their lawyers to take legal action against pseudo-communicators who, through their YouTube programs, have engaged in a defamatory and illegal campaign of intimidation and discredit against them,” the statement read.

Finally, they assured that neither Dr. Miranda nor her son wish for these cases to be aired in public due to their delicate private nature and the ongoing judicial proceedings. However, they reserve the right to defend themselves in the media if Dr. Roque Espaillat or his associates continue their harmful actions.
