Dominican military ‘the best wall at border’: Top general

Santo Domingo.- The entry of Haitian immigrants and the smuggling of products across the border has stoked talk in Congress of building a wall between Dominican Republic and Haiti, but for Defense minister Sigfrido Pared, "the best wall of the border are the Dominican armed forces."

The official, who called the Dominican-Haiti border “one of the hemisphere’s most difficult,” affirmed that the military is committed to its protection.

"The institutions that historically have most protected, and which have been responsible for making the Dominican Republic a completely strong nation, from the area’s standpoint, are the armed forces," Pared said, quoted by elcaribe.com.do.

Accompanied by the chiefs of Staff of the Army, Rubén D. Paulino; of the Navy, Edwin Dominici and Air Force deputy commander Juan Manuel Puig, Pared added that the integration of the Border Security Corp (Cesfront) in coordination with the Army, has resulted in greater safety along the border.
