New York.- Nearly a quarter of the NYPD’s newest batch of cops are foreign born, with the Dominican Republic leading the way as the most popular birthplace, NY Daily News reports.

After six months of training at the police academy, 616 recruits will graduate on Monday. “They hail from 49 countries, with 24 born in the Dominican Republic,” the Daily News said citing statistics.

Guyana is the second most popular country of birth, with 11 recruits.

The outlet said in total, 138 of the recruits were born outside the United States, or about one in four, a similar percentage to other classes in recent years.
