Weather update

Santo Domingo.- The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) announced that a tropical wave, combined with a trough, will bring moderate to heavy rains in various regions of the country today. Thunderstorms and isolated gusts of wind are expected in the northeast, east, southeast, the eastern plain, the Central Mountain Range, and the border area.

Affected provinces include La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Samaná, La Vega, Duarte, Barahona, Sánchez Ramírez, Azua, Monsignor Nouel, Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat, and the National District.

On Wednesday, the tropical wave will move away, but the trough’s influence, along with daytime heating and orographic effects, will maintain humidity and instability. This will result in cloudiness from the morning, followed by moderate to strong showers, thunderstorms, and isolated gusts of wind in the northern, northeastern, eastern plain, central mountain range, and border area.

Onamet advises staying hydrated, wearing light-colored clothing, staying in ventilated spaces, and avoiding direct sunlight between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. due to high temperatures. Special care should be taken for children and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to heat.
