Santo Domingo.- Dominican Airports Siglo XXI (Aerodom) announced on Friday that all systems are functioning normally at the airports operated by AERODOM and VINCI Airports in the Dominican Republic, despite a global computer failure impacting airports and airlines worldwide.
The disruption was caused by a faulty update from Microsoft’s cybersecurity firm “CrowdStrike,” which affected international airlines, railway companies, and telecommunications industries. This technological collapse led to flight delays worldwide, with major US carriers Delta, United, and American Airlines suspending flights early in the morning due to “communications issues,” according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Aerodom advised passengers to check their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport, as schedules may be subject to change.
Origin of the Failure
The incident originated from a problematic update to the CrowdStrike Falcon platform, a Windows protection system. CrowdStrike acknowledged the bug in the update, which caused widespread disruptions, and stated that it is working to reverse the changes.
Founded in 2011 with $26 million in initial funding, CrowdStrike provides security services to some of the world’s largest companies, including Microsoft and Dell. The CrowdStrike Falcon platform is known for detecting security breaches in real-time.
