Santo Domingo.- On Monday, Delta Air Lines canceled four commercial flights between Las Americas International Airport (AILA) in Santo Domingo and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City due to a crew shortage. Luis López, the director of Communications for Aeropuertos Dominicanos XXI (Aerodom), confirmed this, noting that a global failure experienced by Microsoft had impacted various sectors, according to Diario Libre.
The canceled flights from New York City to Santo Domingo were flight 1917, scheduled to depart at 8:50 AM and land at 12:53 PM, and flight 1908, set to depart at 1:55 PM and arrive in the Dominican Republic at 6:01 PM.
Similarly, flights 1829 and 1863 from Santo Domingo to New York were also canceled. Flight 1829 was scheduled to leave at 2:37 PM and land at JFK at 7:00 PM, while flight 1863 was set to depart the Caribbean island at 7:30 PM and arrive in New York at 11:37 PM.
These routes were among over 700 flights canceled by Delta as the airline struggled to restore operations following a global cyber outage on Friday. The outage also affected other airlines, causing widespread disruptions.
According to the latest data from FlightAware, there were a total of 1,461 flight cancellations within, to, or from the United States on Sunday, with Delta and United Airlines leading in cancellations.
