RD Vial advances toll station digital transformation

RD Vial advances toll station digital transformation

Santo Domingo.- The RD Vial Trust Coordinating Office announced that the digital transformation of toll stations across the Dominican Republic is progressing well, with notable advancements. The primary challenge has been replacing outdated equipment, some of which have been in use for over a decade, causing intermittent service due to overuse and outdated capacity.

Key improvements include:

  1. Infrastructure and Equipment Upgrade: The office has been upgrading to state-of-the-art servers and trackside PCs to enhance the efficiency of the Paso Rápido system and other automated processes. The update was expedited due to the old equipment’s inability to handle the operational load, resulting in data synchronization delays.
  2. Renewal of Network Cabling and Equipment: The data interconnection system is being replaced with new generation category 6A cables, designed for high-speed data transmission and durability in adverse conditions. High-end devices like layer three switches and firewalls are also being installed to ensure reliable data traffic and cybersecurity.
  3. Installation of New Toll Antennas: New high-speed electronic toll collection antennas are being installed to reduce passage times in fast-track lanes to 2-3 seconds, significantly enhancing the user experience.

Jean Luis Rodríguez, the director of RD Vial, emphasized that these efforts demonstrate the Dominican government’s commitment to providing quality service and advancing towards modern, barrier-free toll stations. These initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to maintain cutting-edge infrastructure and offer efficient, transparent service to users.
