Approval of Cabo Rojo Tourism Corporation bill

Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies has swiftly approved a bill to establish the Cabo Rojo Tourism Corporation, aimed at enhancing tourism management in Pedernales. The bill, passed in two consecutive discussions, proposes creating a mixed-capital corporation affiliated with the Ministry of the Presidency.

The Cabo Rojo Tourism Corporation will be tasked with developing and managing tourism-related infrastructure, including hotels and commercial facilities, as part of the Cabo Rojo Tourism Project. The corporation’s primary functions will include project construction, execution, business management, investment, and marketing.

According to Article 7 of the bill, the corporation will be a mixed-capital entity, with state investment required to be no less than 51% to prevent privatization. The corporation will possess its own assets, legal status, and the ability to incur commercial and contractual debts.

The General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships will adjust the Pro-Pedernales Trust to align with the new operational framework set by this law.

Introduced to Congress in October 2023, the bill was approved twice by the Senate before being sent to the Chamber of Deputies. After five months of review, the deputies expedited its approval to ensure the project did not lapse.
