Elidenia Velásquez presents her fifth book at the Dominican Academy of Language

Santo Domingo.- Writer and neurologist Dr. Elidenia Velásquez recently launched her fifth book at the Dominican Academy of Language. Her latest work, a children’s book titled Hijo de las hadas (Son of the Fairies), marks her debut in the genre of children’s literature.

The event featured special appearances by Bruno Rosario Candelier, the director of the Dominican Academy of Language, and acclaimed writer and academic Rita Díaz, along with other prominent figures from the literary world in the country.

Rita Díaz and Rafael J. Rodríguez Pérez, president of Río de Oro Editores, the publishing house for the book, delivered the introductory remarks.

Hijo de las hadas, part of the “Colección Carajitos” by Río de Oro, is dedicated to children and consists of six short stories. Velásquez has dedicated this book to her grandchildren.

“With love for the princes of the enchanted realm of my dreams, my beloved grandchildren: Lucas, Elimar, Estela, and little Apolinar, who fill the corners of my soul with light and with their laughter and mischief, lead me to live in a magical world of colors,” reads the heartfelt dedication.

In the back cover note accompanying the book, editor Rodríguez Pérez describes it as a legacy of love for children.

“Wonderful and green as a meadow, like the delicate caterpillar that awakens as a butterfly, or the translucent leaf that shelters a fairy. Beauties of the mind, that spread like the magical dust of nymphs, spurring our imagination,” Rodríguez wrote.

The book, beautifully illustrated and designed by artist Carlos Bruzón, a member of the professional team at Río de Oro Editores, contains fifty-two pages and includes six stories: Moli and Elimar, The Light, A Matter of Time, Big Feet, Winter Provisions, and Son of the Fairies, the title story.

This is the fifth book by the distinguished Dominican author to be published in the country. Her previous works, including three poetry collections and a novel, have been well-received by critics and garnered numerous reviews, press notes and opinions.
