Leonel urges full disclosure of Venezuelan voting records

Venezuela.- Former President Leonel Fernández, serving as an observer for the Venezuelan elections, urged the National Electoral Council (CNE) to ensure transparency by publishing all vote count records, categorized by voting centers and tables.

Fernández’s recommendations were shared on social media, co-signed by former Colombian President Ernesto Samper Pisano. In light of the presidential election held in Venezuela on July 28, they emphasized the importance of peace and the avoidance of violence, which can lead to death, destruction, destabilization, and suffering.

The recommendations included a call for the CNE to publish the vote count records, as suggested by the UN Secretary-General and the Carter Center. This transparency is deemed essential for providing all parties with the necessary information for a thorough review, ensuring the process is perceived as impartial and objective.

Additionally, the former presidents suggested that the CNE, in accordance with Venezuelan electoral regulations, should provide the necessary institutional resources to address any disputes regarding the election results.

The observers also emphasized the need for genuine and productive internal political dialogue among Venezuelans, stating that it is crucial for resolving the crisis. They proposed this dialogue as a pathway to peace, reconciliation, and political stability in Venezuela, hoping it would be embraced as a practical solution to prevent further confrontations that hinder the country’s economic and social development.
