Senate chief won’t seek reelection, eyes Presidency

Santo Domingo.- Senate president Reinaldo Pared plans to meet with his political team Friday afternoon to announce he’ll not seek to repeat in that post and concentrate on his bid for Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD party’s presidential candidacy, said a source quoted by eldia.com.do.

It said Pared will announce his decision at a 4pm press conference.

PLD lawmakers, officials and members of his political team suggested that he concentrate on his campaign full-time to seek the presidential nomination, reportedly on the good numbers in recent surveys.

During seven years Pared has headed the PLD-controlled Senate, where he has few rivals.
