Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s electricity demand hit a historic peak on Wednesday night, according to Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte. He reported that between 9 and 10 p.m., demand surged to 3,694 megawatts (MW), with an additional 31 MW left unsupplied due to technical issues, bringing the total demand to 3,725 MW.
Minister Almonte attributed this significant rise in electricity usage to the soaring temperatures and heightened summer activities. “The heat and increased summer activities have driven this record demand,” he explained.
