Patrol of the Colonial Zone begins

After the government announced the launch of a citizen security plan in the Colonial City of the National District, National Police agents were visible on different streets, parks, and corners of this tourist area.

During a tour carried out by reporters from Listin Diario, uniformed officers in patrol cars and motorized vehicles were noticed.

Some residents and employees of the Colonial Zone stressed that, although they usually see patrols, the reinforcement of agents has been more evident in recent days.

“They always pass by because I live right here and now they have put two permanent police officers in the park three or four days ago,” said Carlos Polanco, who has lived for more than 30 years on José Gabriel García Street at the corner of 19 de Marzo.

Polanco considered the authorities’ measure “good” because it guarantees greater safety to tourists who usually circulate along the boardwalk.

For his part, Wellington Montero, a citizen who has worked in the surrounding area for 30 years, indicated that less than a week ago, he noticed the presence of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) and the Lynx.

Other people who frequently go to the Colonial Zone do not have the same impression, highlighting that “there are few” uniformed officers to deploy 143, and at night, they are not so present.

“At the times when I go out there are very few. You find it at a certain time, but when you need it at nightfall you don’t see anything,” said Dulce Paredes, who spends much time at the Catedral Primada de América.

Representatives of the Central Directorate of Tourism Police (Politur) and the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transport (Digesett) accompanied the agents.
