Santo Domingo.- Marileidy Paulino, along with boxers Yunior Alcántara and Cristian Pinales, who all medaled at the XXXIII Olympic Games in Paris 2024, returned to the Dominican Republic on Sunday afternoon and were welcomed as national heroes.

Las Américas International Airport (AILA) was filled with supporters, many of whom traveled from Paulino’s hometown of Nizao to celebrate her homecoming.

Paulino, the Dominican Republic’s sole gold medalist at Paris 2024, was joined by bronze medalists Alcántara and Pinales as they greeted well-wishers and travelers at the terminal.

The government organized a special reception for the three athletes, who returned ahead of the conclusion of the XXXIII Olympic Games.

Thanks to Paulino’s gold medal and the two bronze medals won by Alcántara and Pinales, the Dominican Republic ranked 59th in the overall medal standings.

Marileidy Paulino also set a new Olympic record in the 400-meter track and field event, finishing with a time of 48.17 seconds.
