Haitian Minister responds to Roberto Álvarez’s statement

Haiti.- Dominican Republic’s Foreign Minister, Roberto Álvarez, recently made a statement that drew a response from his Haitian counterpart, Dominique Dupuy.

However, during an interview on Haitian radio station Radio Télé Métronome, Dupuy, Haiti’s foreign minister, countered that airspace access should be extended to all citizens, not just officials. She emphasized that Haitian authorities should not enjoy privileges unavailable to the general population.

Dupuy asserted, “Any request for reopening must apply to all citizens, without exception. The Haitian authorities cannot benefit from a privilege to which the Haitian people have no access.” She further stated that “the reopening of the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic should not be subject to negotiations.”
