Ban lauds Dominican Republic’s legislation for foreigners

Santo Domingo.- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon praised president Danilo Medina for enacting the foreigner’s naturalization and regularization legislation, and said it’s essential that Dominican Republic and Haiti provide identification documents to the Haitians who live and work in Dominican Republic.

"It is important to recognize the nationality of these people (Haitians’ descendants)," Ban said.

In a joint statement and after the around 45 minute-meeting in the National Palace, Ban stressed the important efforts by the leaders of Dominican Repblic and Haiti to make immigration viable.

He also lauded Medina for his vision to allocate 4% of GDP for education and social programs to ensure food safety.
