Santo Domingo.- Mayor Carolina Mejía of the National District inaugurated the renovated Plaza de la Poesía, honoring the poet Fabio Fiallo. The plaza, located at the intersection of Mexico and France avenues, has been upgraded with new paint, benches, lighting, landscaping, and signage. A plaque was added to the existing bust, further dedicating the space to Fiallo’s memory.
In her address, Mayor Mejía highlighted the importance of preserving Fiallo’s legacy through the creation of this dignified space. Rafael Arístides Fiallo, representing the poet’s family, expressed gratitude to the mayor’s office for keeping Fiallo’s contributions to Dominican culture and history alive.
Fabio Fiallo is renowned for his literary works such as Cantaba el ruiseñor, La canción de una vida, Cuentos Frágiles, and La cita. Beyond his poetry, he held public offices and is remembered for his staunch defense of Dominican nationality during the North American intervention of 1916, which led to his imprisonment.
