Santo Domingo.- For the third consecutive year, Air Europa participated in SkyTeam’s challenge to promote sustainable innovation in aviation. Renamed “The Aviation Challenge” for 2024, the airline optimized a long-haul flight from Madrid-Barajas to Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, demonstrating the feasibility of eco-friendly improvements.
The flight used a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating with 2% sustainable SAF fuel, and incorporated various efficiency measures such as selecting the most efficient route, using AI for catering load distribution, and utilizing lighter containers to reduce weight. Nearly 100% occupancy further minimized emissions per passenger, and new catering practices reduced onboard plastic use.
Air Europa also focused on ground operations, deploying electric vehicles and applying gender parity in crew selection. Additionally, the flight transported school supplies to support children at risk in Santo Domingo through Fundación La Matica, highlighting the airline’s commitment to social responsibility.
