Dominican authorities seize major cocaine shipment

Santo Domingo.- Dominican authorities remain steadfast in their fight against drug trafficking, evidenced by a recent operation in which agents from the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD), supported by Military Security at the Caucedo Multimodal Port and Customs inspectors, and coordinated by the Public Ministry, seized 1,585 packages of a substance presumed to be cocaine. The interdiction took place at the port terminal in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province.

As part of their new operational strategies, anti-narcotics agents and military personnel profiled and inspected dozens of containers from South America. They detected inconsistencies in one container, prompting them to implement the action protocol. Upon inspection, they discovered 317 contaminated boxes of lemons, inside which the 1,585 packages (weighing over 1,600 kilograms) were hidden.

According to the cargo manifest, the citrus shipment, in transit through the Dominican Republic, originated from Santa Marta, Colombia, and was destined for Hamburg, Germany. The DNCD highlighted that this is the third-largest drug seizure at the Caucedo Multimodal Port and the largest seizure of 2024.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the foiled international drug trafficking operation and will provide more details as the case unfolds.
