Second edition of Selecta RD: designer crafts exhibition opens

Santo Domingo.- Valentín Guerrero, an expert curator in crafts, has launched the second edition of “SELECTA RD,” in collaboration with the Dominican Development Foundation (FDD) and the Coopera Banreservas Program. The event’s opening gala recognized Dominican artisans featured in the Great Masters of Popular Art of Ibero-America collection, marking the first time these artisans have been honored in their home country.

SELECTA RD showcases works from master craftsmen, including those using endangered techniques, and highlights the contributions of women artisans from various regions. The 2024 gala also honored Casa de Teatro, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), and Brisas del Caribe for their support of Dominican crafts.

The event emphasizes the preservation and promotion of local crafts through training, recognition, and market opportunities. SELECTA RD, which includes exhibitions, workshops, and a sales room, is open to the public at the Dominican-German Center in the Colonial City from August 10 to 24. The initiative is supported by several prominent sponsors.
