Driver in Azua truck accident surrenders to authorities

Santo Domingo.- The driver responsible for the tragic truck accident in the Bastida community of Azua, which resulted in over 10 fatalities and nearly 30 injuries, has surrendered to authorities.

The driver, identified as Ángel Encarnación Bautista, also known as “Papito,” hails from Hondo Valle in the province of Elías Piña. He was accompanied by Yamailin Santana, who also turned herself in to the police.

Police spokesman Diego Pesqueira reported that among the deceased was a National Police sergeant. Several victims remain unidentified. Most of the injured were transported to the San Juan de la Maguana hospital, according to Azua’s provincial health director, Joel Montaño.
