Seed of trust will sprout with Haiti: Dominican Republic leader

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.- "President Martelly, it’s time for us to look at each other eye to eye, shake our hands and work shoulder to shoulder to strengthen each of our countries," were Dominican president Danilo Medina’s words to close the meeting between Dominican Republic, Haiti and the European Union in eastern La Altagracia province on Tuesday .

Medina called historic the meeting with Haiti president Michel Martelly and of the European Union, Herman Van Rompuy, in which the two Caribbean leaders pledged to work jointly to solve the problems of the Hispaniola neighbors.

Speaking at Hard Rock Hotel, Medina said the seed of trust will sprout only with an honest commitment and sincere effort by both governments and respect on both sides of the border. "We share a vision: to build two strong nations, independent and developed, able to coexist and cooperate as good neighbors with mutual respect."
