Russia.- The government of the Russian Federation has authorized the establishment of a Russian embassy in Santo Domingo, following a request from the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This approval comes after the Dominican Republic recently suspended its bilateral relations with Venezuela, where Russia’s diplomatic representation had previously been based.
The decision is outlined in Order No. 2438-p, signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The order specifies that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will determine the number of staff for the new embassy in the Dominican Republic.
Diplomatic relations between Russia and the Dominican Republic were first established in March 1945, and both nations have appointed ambassadors since 1991.
