Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Housing and Construction (MIVED) is making significant progress on renovations at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, which will host the U-17 Women’s World Cup and the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games this year.
So far, MIVED has installed 24,500 seats in the stands, 366 VIP seats, and 355 field lighting lamps. The renovations also include waterproofing the stands and upgrading medium voltage equipment, transformers, and sectioning switches. In response to requests from FIFA and the Central American Games organizers, all railings on ramps and stands have been standardized.
The renovation features the use of an imported “Grass Max” machine from Europe, which employs a new method for maintaining the stadium’s grass.
The U-17 Women’s World Cup is set to begin on October 16 and will include teams from the Dominican Republic, Spain, the United States, Nigeria, Ecuador, Japan, New Zealand, Colombia, South Korea, Kenya, Mexico, Poland, Brazil, and Zambia. This will mark the first time the tournament is hosted in the Dominican Republic, with Santiago and Santo Domingo serving as venues, and the second time the event is held in the Caribbean.
