Santo Domingo.- Meteorologist Jean Suriel reported this Wednesday that the Dominican Republic has experienced 20 earthquakes recently, with 10 concentrated in the northwest region. Suriel noted on X that the seismic activity has been concentrated southeast of Monte Cristi, west of Valverde, and north of Santiago Rodríguez.
Suriel explained that at 11:59 PM yesterday, seismographs detected a 4.2 magnitude earthquake felt across much of the Cibao region. Prior to this, a magnitude 3.6 quake occurred, followed by several smaller tremors ranging from 3.0 to 3.2 in the northwest.
The most recent tremor, measuring 2.5 in magnitude, struck at 5:20 AM today, with its epicenter east-southeast of Guayubín in Monte Cristi.
