National Theater Festival 2024 announced, honoring Lillyanna Díaz

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Culture has announced the 2024 edition of the National Theater Festival (FENATE), scheduled from October 20 to 30 under the theme “Theater is for Everyone.” This year’s festival will be dedicated to renowned lighting technician and stage producer Lillyanna Díaz. The announcement was made by Culture Minister Milagros Germán during a press event at the Juan Lockward Bar of the Eduardo Brito National Theater.

The festival will showcase 21 theater productions from 20 national companies, involving over 350 artists. The lineup includes a variety of genres, such as adult monologues, comedies, children’s productions, and dance performances. The event will also offer workshops and conferences for theater professionals and enthusiasts from September 12 to October 4.

Special guest works include “Youth,” directed by Didier Ruiz from France, and “El Gallo,” a historical drama by Dominican director Francisco Arias Cruz Ariza. Venues for the performances include the National Theater, the Palace of Fine Arts, and Casa de Teatro, among others. Tickets will be available for RD$200.

Lillyanna Díaz, the festival’s honoree, has spent over 50 years contributing to Dominican theater. A founding member of the National Theater’s technical department, she has worked with prominent directors and designed lighting for acclaimed operas. Díaz has received numerous accolades, including five Casandra Awards.
