Haiti.- A senior official from Haiti’s National Migration Office was killed on Wednesday in Cap-Haitien, a northern coastal city. Kerwin Augustin, who oversaw the northern region, was shot near his home and later died in the hospital, according to a Radio Caraïbes reporter present at the scene.
The report indicates that Augustin was attacked by unknown assailants on a motorcycle. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.
While violent incidents involving prominent individuals are rare in Cap-Haitien, the city is generally safer compared to Port-au-Prince, which is heavily controlled by gangs.
