Dominican Republic to host third AI Ethics Ministerial Summit

Santo Domingo.- Bartolomé Pujals, General Director of the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OGTIC) and Executive Director of the Cabinet for Innovation and Digital Development, represented the Dominican Republic at the Second Ministerial Summit on AI Ethics in Latin America and the Caribbean. The summit focused on AI regulation, governance, and public-private collaboration to position the region in the global AI dialogue.

By unanimous decision of the 20 countries present, with support from UNESCO and CAF, it was announced that the Dominican Republic will host the Third Ministerial Summit on AI Ethics, highlighting its leadership in promoting ethical AI and technological innovation. Pujals emphasized the need for the upcoming summit to serve as a platform for sharing regional digital solutions and developing an AI model in Dominican Spanish. He proposed sessions to showcase successful projects and create a cooperation portfolio to support the implementation of ethical AI practices.

The summit aims to strengthen regional cooperation and align policies with UNESCO’s AI ethics recommendations, promoting responsible AI use for sustainable development and human rights. This initiative continues the work initiated in Santiago, Chile, in 2023, and seeks to define a collaborative agenda for the responsible and sustainable development of AI in the region.
