Defense chief says farewell to arms

Santo Domingo.- Defense minister Sigfrido Pared on Monday said his military uniform “must pass to the background, after 41 years in the armed forces."

The country’s top general made the tacit farewell when asked about possible changes of officials that often occur each year on August 16, Day of the Restoration of Independence.

He said he’s satisfied with his work and affirmed that there are many officers with the wherewithal and willingness to efficiently perform their duties.

He said he counted with a good work team during his tenure, which in his view benefited the Armed Forces. “There are always things left undone, but those who remain at the forefront of institutions have a duty to give it continuity.”
