President Abinader inaugurates Cabo Rojo Port expansion

Pedernales.- As part of efforts to develop the South and the Enriquillo region, President Luis Abinader inaugurated the second phase of the Port Cabo Rojo, a facility capable of receiving two large oasis-type cruise ships and welcoming up to 15,000 visitors. He also inaugurated a new aqueduct, which will benefit 8,000 rooms in the tourist area.

During the inauguration, the third cruise ship arrived in Pedernales—Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, carrying more than 3,000 passengers. This marked the ship’s first visit to the Dominican Republic. Abinader emphasized the significant impact of these developments, stating that the transformation underway in Pedernales is creating jobs and driving regional growth.

The Cabo Rojo port currently supports 400 direct jobs, with an estimated two to three indirect jobs created for each direct position, further enhancing the local economy. Additional infrastructure projects, including hotels, an airport, roads, an aqueduct, and an electrical substation, are also progressing rapidly, positioning the region as a world-class tourist destination.
