President Abinader reaffirms tax exemption for evangelical churches

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader reaffirmed his commitment to upholding Law 122-05, which regulates and promotes Non-Profit Associations, including evangelical churches, following a meeting with Pastor Ezequiel Molina of the Batalla de La Fe church and other Christian leaders. During the meeting, Pastor Molina expressed the evangelical leadership’s request to ensure that churches remain exempt from taxes under the law. In response, President Abinader agreed to maintain this provision and to make necessary adjustments to the fiscal modernization project being considered by Congress.

The meeting included notable evangelical figures such as Pastor Feliciano Lancen, president of CODUE, and Lorenzo Mota King, director of SSID. Pastor Molina emphasized that the tax exemption for non-Catholic churches, as outlined in Article 50 of Law 122-05, acknowledges the vital contributions of these organizations to Dominican society.

The fiscal modernization bill is currently being reviewed in public hearings by the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, with input from various economic sectors.
