Authorities dismantle counterfeit medicine operation

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Public Ministry, in collaboration with the National Police, CECCOM, and DICRIM, dismantled a criminal gang involved in the sale and production of counterfeit medicines in La Guáyiga, Santo Domingo Oeste. Led by Prosecutor Edward López and Police General Eduardo Escalante, the raid resulted in the arrest of three individuals—Freddy Guzmán, Justo Ciro Jiménez Velázquez, and César Gabriel Matos Encarnación—who face potential preventive detention.

Authorities seized around 800,000 counterfeit medicine units and equipment used in their manufacturing. The fake medicines included Amoxicillin, Complex B, Altran 800, and other unidentified drugs.

The operation highlights the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies under the Joint Task Force, reinforcing their commitment to combating organized crime.
