Santo Domingo.- Vice President Raquel Peña inaugurated the twelfth edition of Intecnología 2024, the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology (INTEC)’s biennial technology fair, aimed at showcasing innovative solutions created by Dominican youth to address real-world challenges. Speaking at the event, Peña emphasized the role of young people as future leaders in driving the Dominican Republic’s development through innovation, sustainability, and dedication to the public good. The theme for this year’s fair focuses on artificial intelligence and sustainability as forces for change, aligning with the government’s National Innovation Policy 2030, which supports collaboration between government and private sectors.
Projects featured include innovative tools such as a device for elderly companionship, a portable cooler, and eco-friendly furniture made from recycled materials. Health Sciences students also presented software for predicting dengue outbreaks, developed by Dominican computer engineer Rainier Mallol, known for his international contributions in predicting disease outbreaks.
In addition to in-person and virtual exhibits, the event includes the “Franco-Dominican Academic and Scientific Cooperation” seminar, supported by the French Embassy, focusing on sustainable solutions for sargassum management. This collaboration between INTEC and Francophone Caribbean universities underscores the fair’s commitment to addressing regional issues through technology and international cooperation.
