Heavy rains in Samaná trigger river overflows and widespread flooding

Samaná.- Heavy rains in El Valle, a community in the Santa Barbara de Samaná municipality, have led to severe flooding, causing rivers and streams to overflow and isolating residents who are struggling to leave their homes. Locals attribute part of the issue to unfinished infrastructure work by the Ministry of Public Works, particularly on a crucial bridge that connects them to other areas.

In nearby Puerto Bahía, Civil Defense officials Ramón Liriano and Victor Hidalgo responded by clearing fallen trees and trimming branches in affected areas.

This flooding highlights ongoing infrastructure challenges in Samaná, compounded by recent seismic activity in the region, including a 5.1-magnitude earthquake in La Altagracia.
