Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has issued decrees 636-24, 637-24, and 640-24 to streamline public administration by eliminating redundant agencies and reallocating resources more efficiently.
Decree 636-24 abolishes the International Advisory Commission on Science and Technology, transferring its responsibilities to the Ministry of Education. The Ministry will manage ongoing programs, while unspent funds will be redirected by the General Budget Directorate. The General Directorate of National Assets will oversee the commission’s assets, allocating necessary resources to the Ministry of Education.
Decree 637-24 dissolves the Presidential Commission for Port Modernization and Security, consolidating its responsibilities under the Dominican Port Authority, which will continue the commission’s work and commitments. The General Directorate of National Assets will reassign assets, while the General Budget Directorate manages unspent funds.
Decree 640-24 disbands the National Council of Population and Family (CONAPOFA), with its functions moved to the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance. This decree transfers necessary assets to the Ministry of Health, aligning it with national development strategies.
These reforms mark a substantial shift toward a more modern and efficient public administration structure in the Dominican Republic.
