ISFODOSU shines a light on Dominican literary luminaries with new poetry series

Santo Domingo.- The Instituto Superior de Formación Docente Salomé Ureña (ISFODOSU) has unveiled a new poetry series, “Clásicos Dominicanos,” at the 26th International Book Fair, casting a spotlight on the nation’s literary heritage. This is the latest addition to the series, “Serie III. Poesía,” which showcases ten seminal works by iconic Dominican poets.

The launch event, graced by distinguished figures including ISFODOSU Rector Dr. Nurys del Carmen González, renowned writer Emilia Pereyra, and celebrated poet and essayist Mateo Morrison, marked a significant moment for Dominican literature.

“Through these works, students, teachers, and literature lovers can delve into the richness and diversity of our poetry, finding inspiration for their own artistic expressions,” remarked Dr. González.

“This is a harvest of great quality that highlights various literary legacies and pays homage to unforgettable and indispensable poetic voices of Dominican lyricism,” emphasized Emilia Pereyra, a renowned writer and National Journalism Award winner.

Mateo Morrison, a celebrated poet and essayist, underscored the collection’s significance, stating, “When we talk about a collection like this, we are talking about an essential contribution to Dominican culture.”

Ángela Hernández, representing the Ministry of Culture, expressed gratitude for ISFODOSU’s commitment to preserving Dominican literature. She emphasized the importance of poetry education, calling on teachers to reintroduce the practice of memorizing poetry to students. “There is no better way to learn a language and appreciate its nuances than through poetry,” she stated.
