In search of a solution to traffic chaos

SantoDomingo.- President Danilo Medina announced that he would be outlining aplan in the next few days aimed at reducing the chaotic Dominican transportation system, mainly in the cities of Santo Domingo and Santiago.

He recalled that the fiscal reform hadincluded the creation of a tax that assigns 25% of taxes to a fund for solvingthe transportation problem and that they are already working on this with a goodamount of resources.

He said they were also working on thethird phase of the second line of the Metro as a way of reducing congestion onthe streets. He added that although it would take a long time to complete theMetro that the city of Santo Domingo needs, this third phase would involve theOriental Zone, the most populous part of Greater Santo Domingo.
