Police nab online fraudster

Santo Domingo.- The Policereports the arrest of a man who had been on the run since last December. He isaccused of online fraud after allegedly swindling RD$950,000 from a bankinginstitution via the Internet Banking system.

Roberto Antonio Paulino (El Gringo) was arrested in Cristo Rey during araid Wednesday by agents of the Department of Investigations of High TechnologyCrimes (DICAT).

The police report says that the intelligence services located thefugitive in a house on Félix Evaristo Mejía Street, in an area known as ElBronx in the Cristo Rey neighborhood, where the arrest took place infulfillment of court order 0400, dated 16th December 2013.

The agents found two bank cards and a Nokia cellphone in Paulino’spossession. The transactions and phone calls will be examined in order toestablish whether they were used for any other fraudulent operations.

Paulino will appear in court shortly. Meanwhile, investigators continueto examine the evidence to establish whether the accused acted alone or if anyaccomplices were involved in the fraud.
