Sosua—The Government continued with the sanitation and recovery of Sosúa beach by demolishing empty and previously notified structures within the 60 square meters of the beach established by law as a no-building zone.
Surveying and registering the 208 commercial premises within 60 meters of the beach began in 2021 through the Executing Unit for the Readjustment of Neighborhoods and Environments (URBE) attached to the Ministry of the Presidency.
Before the start of the demolition process, several meetings were held with community members in the area to understand their needs and learn about the types of businesses located in the intervened perimeter.
This program is part of the Playa Sosúa Recovery and Reorganization Project, developed by the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR).
On July 24 of this year, it began with the first delivery of checks to merchants who opted for economic compensation and together with the first demolitions of freed structures.
To date, more than 30 stores have been assigned.
