Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of the Interior and Police, led by Faride Raful, announced the launch of Operation Peace Guarantee Christmas 2024, set to begin on December 3. This initiative will deploy 1,016 newly trained police officers, 240 patrol vehicles, and 10 additional units dedicated to improving road safety in high-risk areas. The operation aims to maintain public safety during the holiday season, addressing challenges such as traffic accidents and alcohol-related incidents.
Raful emphasized measures to reduce accidents, including regulating alcohol sales and enforcing noise control in nightlife establishments. She also highlighted the success of neighborhood councils in reducing the mortality rate and social conflicts, which have dropped from 64% to 25%. The School Police program will bolster safety in educational institutions, focusing on non-lethal weapon training.
Additional efforts include collaboration with the General Directorate of Internal Revenue (DGII) to register motorcycles, often linked to criminal activity, and employing heat maps to identify and intervene in high-risk areas. Raful also underscored the ministry’s mediation program, aimed at resolving conflicts outside of court, as part of broader efforts to enhance community security and well-being.
