26 Haitian nationals hospitalized for suspected poisoning

Azua.-  On Sunday, 26 Haitian nationals, including 24 adults and two minors, were admitted to Taiwan Regional Hospital in Azua showing symptoms of possible organophosphate poisoning. The group, mostly men, exhibited nausea, vomiting, excessive salivation, and involuntary muscle contractions, common signs of poisoning.

Dr. Luis Edward Perez, the hospital’s director, stated that immediate treatment was administered, including atropine, saline solutions, and gastric lavage. He praised the hospital’s emergency team for their swift response, noting that all patients were stable and under observation, with plans to discharge them within 24 hours.

Dr. Perez also emphasized the readiness of the hospital’s emergency personnel in handling such cases. While the patients are being closely monitored, authorities are investigating the cause and the substance responsible for the poisoning. The hospital continues to provide necessary care to ensure the patients’ full recovery.
