Immigration Director Lee Ballester tours border to implement market security measures

Dajabón.- Vice Admiral Lee Ballester, director of the General Directorate of Migration, accompanied by CESFRONT director José Rodríguez Coste and other government officials, toured the Dominican-Haitian border to assess national security measures for binational markets. During the visit, Ballester emphasized the importance of strengthening immigration controls, increasing surveillance, and ensuring effective market operations without compromising national security.

Ballester highlighted the need to organize commercial activities, regulate the flow of foreign visitors, and implement new security measures. He noted that plans are being developed to address these issues in the short term, considering resource availability, costs, and consensus among stakeholders. Additionally, efforts are underway to improve the territorial organization of markets to enhance security and operational efficiency.

Dajabón Mayor Santiago Riveron expressed concerns about the market’s current state, describing it as overwhelmed by uncontrolled growth. He welcomed the government’s interest and called for urgent measures to redesign the market to meet long-term demands, projecting a 10-year plan for sustainable development.
