CEPM drives progress toward carbon neutrality in Punta Cana

Bávaro, Punta Cana.- The Punta Cana–Macao Energy Consortium (CEPM) showcased significant strides toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 through its CEPM Zero initiative during a recent meeting with leaders of the Dominican Republic’s hotel sector. Held at Evergo Connect, the region’s first electric vehicle charging station, the event highlighted CEPM’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Among the key updates was the development of the FV3 solar park in Bávaro, equipped with the region’s largest energy storage system, capable of delivering 40 MWh of energy over four continuous hours. CEPM also unveiled plans for new solar facilities—FV4, FV5, and FV6—the latter being the largest under the CEPM Zero strategy. Backed by $56.4 million in financing from IDB Invest, FV6 will feature a 78 MW capacity with 30 MWh battery storage. By 2027, CEPM aims to add 300 MW of wind power to its energy portfolio, advancing its goal of 100% clean energy generation.

CEPM’s efforts extend beyond energy production to fostering sustainable tourism. In collaboration with hotel clients, CEPM has implemented photovoltaic systems and EV charging stations, contributing to cleaner operations. Over the next 15 years, these partnerships will produce 395,023 MWh of renewable energy, reducing CO2 emissions by 225,558 tons. CEPM’s initiatives not only support the tourism sector’s competitiveness but also position the Dominican Republic as a global leader in sustainable energy and eco-friendly development.
